Howard Unruh

I always found how men (and now women) are affected by warfare very interesting. One particular that stands out to me, probably for me because Sheer Terror wrote a song about him is Howard Unruh. To many he is considered the "father of mass murder". Howard had gone on a killing spree, murdering 13 people on September 6, 1945 in Camden, NJ.

"Always a reserved man, he had turned into a recluse in the three months before his spree. The World War II veteran was unemployed and lived with his mother. During the war, he was reportedly a brave tank soldier who kept meticulous notes of every German killed, down to details of the corpse."

Mac OS X, Display looks like you dropped 8 tabs of acid

If your display ever looks like that. IE. having a loss of colors and looking like an old monochrome display on acid, try resetting your PRAM. This portion of memory on the logic board holds your display and video information.

The sad part is that after talking with two different apple employees, niether had any idea what to do. One suggested a SMC Reset and I'm not really sure why but I figured I'd give it a shot. Needless to say, the PRAM reset worked which I thought of after one time when I was at the "Genius Bar" with one of our iMacs from work.

Also, the video card I have, ATI Radeon x1600, had been discontinued in June of 2007 and there are NO video drivers anywhere to be found.

So I just wanted to talk a few minutes and express my frustration with Apple Software Update.

Yesterday, I decided to let software update install a Quicktime update. I usually never update Quicktime. This time I allow it to update and software update locks up and eventually locks up my Macbook Pro.
This lockup ruined my file system and has basically rendered my laptop unusable.

It was unable to be repaired through the following methods:

Disk Utility
Disk Utility from the start-up disk
Single-user mode
Disk Warrior
Safe Mode (would not even boot)

Today at lunch I will be making a trip to the Freehold Mall to pick up Leopard and hopefully get a fucking student discount on it.

My point is, Quicktime is really not worth updating.

Also, Apple: the software update for something as inconsequential as Quicktime should NEVER consume enough resources to lock up my laptop while I am only running Adium and Firefox. Furthermore, why is the software updater accessing such fragile portions of the file system for only a Quicktime update?

This diagram shows the LHC and the SPS pre-accelerator (in blue) and the transfer lines that will connect them (in red). Spanning the France-Swiss border (shown by green crosses), the 27-km LHC tunnel will receive a beam that has been pre-accelerated to 450 GeV in the smaller SPS storage ring. The transfer lines will remove each beam from the SPS and inject them into the LHC where they will be accelerated to the full energy of 7 TeV.

Here's a really interesting article explaining how the Large Hadron Collider at CERN actually works. It's really impressive how it all works considering it will apparently generate 2GB of data every 10 seconds.

Our only concern is that, in the process, the Humans do a lot of collateral damage to non-Human life, so we want them to confine themselves to hand-to-hand combat or, better yet, to the use of biological agents that kill only Humans.

G: Well, sure, it might. You know what those Humans are like. But remember that the outcome might be the same if someone released a new virus without targeting a particular race--or even if a new virus popped up on its own--just because one race might be genetically more susceptible. Humans can be egalitarian, but nature isn't. And while it matters from the point of view of Human ethics whether a particular result was intended, it doesn't matter to the Earth. The taboo against genocide helps to protect the Humans from one another, so it's a good thing for them, but as soon as you stop seeing things from a Human point of view and adopt the viewpoint of the Earth--and it helps here to see Humans as having become a hostile alien species--things look rather different. If you want Humans to die out, is it so awful if some of them die out before the rest? Of course, if I knew that someone had targeted a particular race, I'd be happier knowing that that race was my own, because that's the one that's doing the most damage. But if it weren't, I wouldn't be unhappy, just less happy. As far is Earth is concerned, it would still be a good start.
Les: I can understand your position when viewing the planet from the Moon, but I have to disagree when I think about the death and suffering down here on the ground. Shouldn't all of us be allowed to live out our lives?
G: Why? It's self-indulgent for the breeders to insist on their "right" to have kids, but it's also self-indulgent for the rest of us to insist on our "right" to live out our allotted threescore and ten.
Les: So, why don't you just commit suicide?
G: If I merely believed in Human extinction, then of course, you'd be right. But, in my judgement, the good I'm doing by promoting the idea of Human extinction outweighs the harm I'm doing by staying alive.
Les: So you hope to live long before you die out.

So, I came across this post today. It is about H. CON. RES. 362 which it seems people are taking to be an authorization for military action upon Iran. However if you read through the proposed resolution it clearly states,

"Whereas nothing in this resolution shall be construed as an authorization of the use of force against Iran: Now, therefore, be it..."

Yes, this could potentially lead to another conflict but I truly believe that no action will be taken without authorization from the United Nations because of the shape this administration is currently in.

I had a really long post regarding this topic, politics, people, and the Middle East but I decided to hold out on posting it as it's such a touchy topic that no one truly has a clear answer to. So I decided to leave it at this and let you see how you feel about the whole political state across the globe.

I'm not too sure how I feel about this as I'm surrounded by models all the time with software. This is where I go off topic from the article: I feel that a general majority of people are too quick to settle on searching for a previously defined "model" to achieve what they're seeking rather than striving for advancement to create their own "model". Yes, there are times when a previously defined "model" fits what you need to achieve your goal, even if small modifications are necessary.

Oh back to the future how i love this movie. BUT

Did you know... that back to the future was actually filmed TWICE?????

The whole thing goes down like this...

Eric Stolz was the orignal marty mcfly from the start for some reason. They filmed the entire movie with him in it, but they watched it and thought it looked like complete shit. That is when Mr Michael Jello Fox hit the big screen and what you see on dvd blur ray dick is what the movie really is in the end. Most of the action scenes that were from the first version were kept in the movie.
